At first glance, box office results seem completely random. Why is it that some movies make so much money and others barely even make it into theaters? This is the question we chose to explore with our machine learning experiment and data collection. Is it the stars? The budget? The genre? The buzz? Or is it a combination of all of these factors? Using a collection of data from a variety of sources and a selection of classification techniques, we have attempted to answer these questions and shed light on what it is that really makes a movie blow up. |
